TH9 Hybrid Base: The Compact Core

A practical everyday layout that balances Town Hall safety, storage coverage, and broad defensive reach.

01 · Defensive idea

What this layout is trying to do

Alternate storages and defenses around a protected center so attackers cannot remove one category in a straight line.

A hybrid is a compromise: it will not specialize as sharply as a pure war or farming layout. That tradeoff is intentional: a useful base has a clear job instead of trying to win every possible exchange.

Best reasons to try it

  • It works across mixed attack styles.
  • It balances loot and trophies.
  • It keeps defensive coverage even.

02 · Placement guide

Build it as a system, not a picture

Start at the center and work outward. Place the main objective, then the defenses that protect it, then the walls that force an attacker to spend time reaching them. Exterior buildings come last because their spacing determines how easily an army can create a funnel.

  1. 1
    Lock the core

Alternate storages and defenses around a protected center so attackers cannot remove one category in a straight line.

  2. 2
    Split premium defenses

Do not let one freeze, jump, or hero route solve every high-value target at once.

  3. 3
    Shape the approach

Offset outside buildings and wall openings so the easiest funnel does not point directly at the core.

  4. 4
    Set traps after the structure

Distribute traps instead of stacking them; the goal is reliable value against several common entries.

03 · TH9 context

What mattered at this Town Hall in 2020

X-Bows and the Archer Queen give TH9 a stronger core, while the larger footprint makes pathing and time pressure more important.

The pressure this layout must answer

Queen Charges and surgical troop deployments look for isolated value around the edge before the main army commits.

Placement note

Protect the defending Queen and Clan Castle without stacking them beside both X-Bows. Make high-value targets require different entry decisions.

Replay checkpoint

Record what the attacking Queen removes before the main push. If she consistently claims two premium targets, increase their separation.

04 · Layout-specific field note

Keep hero value and resource value on different lines

A balanced TH9 layout loses its purpose when a Queen Charge takes the defending Queen, Dark Elixir, and central path in one operation.

Adjustment to test

Offset the defending Queen from the richest storage pocket and let X-Bow reach connect the two without clustering them.

Evidence to collect

Compare what the charge earns with what the main army earns. Rebalance when the charge consistently gets the larger share.

05 · Replay lab

Three checks before you keep it

Entry

Which edge do attackers choose, and which outside buildings make that choice easy?

Spell value

Can one spell affect the Town Hall and more than one premium defense?

Pathing

Where does the main army change direction, split, or leave a defense standing?

Review three comparable defenses before making a large change. Move one or two traps first; change the structure only when the same route keeps succeeding.
